Barbara FitzGerald,Merlou, Deansgrange, Blackrock Dublin.
Barbara, having graduated from Trinity College, Dublin, went on to work in a multi-disciplinary clinical context in child and family psychiatry. During the following years she went on to train extensively in psychotherapy and psychoanalysis.
She is an accredited full member of the Integrative Section, Family Therapy Section and Psychoanalytic Section of the Irish Council for Psychotherapy.
For over 30 years she taught in Eckhart House an institute which was set up to explore the insights between religion, philosophy and psychology. There she developed many programmes integrating insights from Somatic Formative Psychology and Transpersonal theory.
Barbara is a registered Psychotherapist with Irish Council for Psychotherapy.
Over a period of thirty years her background and training in Somatic Psychotherapy, Systemic Family Therapy and Psychoanalysis have been integrated into her practice as a psychotherapist, supervisor, trainer and consultant to organisations and companies, both in the private and public sectors in Ireland.
She is a full member, trainer and supervisor of the Irish Psycho-Analytic Association which is the earliest psychoanalytic group in Ireland. Barbara works as a psychoanalyst and psychotherapist in private practice in Dublin.
She is a former chairperson of the Irish Council for Psychotherapy, and served as a delegate for many years to the European association for Psychotherapy where she served as co-chair of a European National Organisation committee and also on the Governing and Executive Board of the European Association of Psychotherapy.
Barbara was a founder member of the European Confederation of Psychoanalytical Psychotherapies (ECPP) in 2003 and in Romania in 2008 she was elected Vice-President of this organisation. In Rome 2012 she was elected President of the European Confederation of Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy, where she is bringing both her organisational and creative skills to forge links between psychoanalysis and training in Eastern and Western Europe.
Barbara’s most recent work includes psychotherapeutic consultant to an innovative project on depression in a well known psychiatric teaching Hospital in Dublin.
She is on the Editorial board of the international Journal for Psychotherapy.
